2. Description
This work is an interactive sound installation that utilizes ten speakers and sensors. The position and movement of visitors within the installation space generate changes in the sound and direct its spatial movement. Eight speakers suspended from the ceiling emit sounds that follow the trajectories of visitors captured by a camera, while two speakers positioned below function as an ambient layer.
The sonic textures are derived from the sound of breathing, realized through physical modeling algorithms. As visitors move through the space, these sounds transform in real time—from light metallic tones to heavier resonances, and from percussive strikes to scraping gestures—unfolding in scattered and unpredictable ways. Within these evolving processes, diverse sonic forms emerge intermittently, forming a collection of undefined, imaginary breaths—voices that function simultaneously as language and as abstract entities.
The term Vox refers not only to human speech but also to the entire spectrum of sounds generated in the surrounding environment. Through the shifting structures of sound—freed from conventional visual representation—the artist seeks to reveal the abstract dimensions of perception that arise from everyday surroundings. The work exposes intangible and formless flows of existence that are often obscured by the convenience-oriented frameworks of perception shaped by human culture and history.
Although we coexist with these presences, they have been concealed beneath the many layers of mediation and packaging produced by contemporary society. By presenting them as an organic soundscape—an ever-changing, living sonic presence—the work confronts the audience with the forms and conditions of entities that exist beyond the limits of ordinary human awareness.
