2. Description

 In the format of digital sound installation, this project aims to show an opposing/ contradictory dynamics between  trends of COVID19 variants and human history for ecological balance standpoint. Preliminary research on history and molecular biology has been precedented, this work explores how changes in nucleotide sequence patterns, derived from the WHO-defined Wuhan strain of COVID19 and 4 other Variants of Concern, reconfigure sound as a medium. 

” A single tree and the virus which parasitizes it, which may speak of  both autonomy and parasitism. Rather than which came first, what matters is how these two concepts constitute our environment. This is a reflection on ecological balance. Without considering of this, we must recognize that our expanded mental threshold may, in a proportion to its growth, dig a pit that becomes a trap.”

# SOUND representation / RNA WORLD legacy

  By employing the immaterial characteristics of sound as a medium capable of describing the topology of space, this project seeks to depict the reciprocal influence of energies generated by vertically and horizontally structured modes of life extension. Two distinct sounds appear in the work : the former represents rhyzomatic ecological dynamics of COVID19 and the latter hierachical structure based on human-centric vanity. A data-driven generative algorithmic interpretation of numerical analysis from COVID19 mutation, regulates the relationship between these two distinct sound media. The introduction of ecological and evolutionary life mechanism of COVID19 functions as granular units and variants that infiltrate the hierarchical structure of human-centric vanity, and represents ‘horizontal mode of life extension of COVID19’ generated by the expansion of self-identity through real-time mutation. Meanwhile, the human-centric vanity, represented by harmonic hierarchy of an ideal sine wave, is shown to be tuned between two extremes – artificial harmony and textural dissonance through its encounter with normal life of COVID19 variants. Such a tuning is grounded in the RNA world hypothesis, which posits that all life on earth originated from a single strand formed by elements that emerged during the era of primordial atmosphere and ocean. This hypothesis reveals that all forms of life share the evolutionary mechanism of  ‘infiltration and self-defense’ for billions of geographical years, and implies that the human-centric vanity could be deconstructed by infiltration from outside. This is the legacy of RNA world.

# Prediction on nucleic sequence mutation – chain algorithm / audio parameters

 Two different medium of sound are set to be controlled by ‘main computer’, which generates messages about audio control parameters based on  the 2nd Order Markov chain algorithm as a tool for a stochastic analysis that what codons are constructed in every variant samples of SARS-CoV-2(COVID19). The system of audio parametric messages is made of the proportion that how many and what amino acids are deprived of inside the host(human) by the previous generated codons. These audio parametric messages are newly made and transcended in wireless to each sound medium  whenever second variants of SARS-CoV-2(COVID19) are generated.
